MEDIA AVAILABILITY PRIOR TO HOUSE SUBCOMMITTEE LEGISLATIVE HEARING ON MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY

Safety and consumer advocates and families of those killed in motor vehicle crashes will be available to speak with the press prior to a legislative hearing in the U.S. House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade titled Examining Legislative Options to Strengthen Motor Vehicle Safety, Ensure Consumer Choice and Affordability, and Cement U.S. Automotive Leadership.

When: Tuesday, January 13, 2026, before the hearing beginning at 1:00 pm EST.

Where: Hallway outside Room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building

Who:

  • Cathy Chase, President of Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates)
  • Michael Brooks, Executive Director of the Center for Auto Safety. He is testifying before the Subcommittee.
  • Dan Langenkamp: His wife, U.S. Diplomat Sarah Debbink Langenkamp, was killed while riding her bike in Bethesda, MD shortly after being evacuated from Ukraine in 2022. He is an advocate for the Sarah Debbink Langenkamp Active Transportation Safety Act (S. 944/ H.R. 2011).
  • Michael White: His 17-year-old son Magnus White, a cycling star, was killed while riding his bike in Boulder, CO in 2023. He is an advocate for the Magnus White Cyclist Safety Act (H.R. 3649) and the Safe Streets for Everyone Act of 2026 which is being considered during the hearing.
