Mary Jane Mulligan (D), sponsor of House Bill (HB) 1259, and a coalition of public health and traffic safety groups and first responders will be available to discuss the urgent need for a primary enforcement seat belt law for all vehicle occupants. HB 1259 will be considered by the House Transportation Committee tomorrow, February 6, at 10:00 AM EST.

In preparation for tomorrow morning’s hearing, “Driving Automotive Innovation and Federal Policies” by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, leading organizations representing consumers, safety advocates, persons with disabilities, law enforcement, and victims and survivors of motor vehicle crashes sent a letter voicing strong concerns about the AV START Act, S. 1885.  A more detailed statement from Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety will be submitted to the Committee tomorrow morning.

Advocates Releases 2018 Roadmap of State Highway Safety Laws

Today, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates), released the 2018 Roadmap of State Highway Safety Laws. This is the 15th edition of an annual report that rates all 50 states and the District of Columbia (D.C.) on the adoption of 16 fundamental traffic safety laws. This “report card” exposes over 400 missing safety laws nationwide. It is an essential tool that state elected officials should use to improve roadway safety for all motorists as 2018 state legislative sessions kick off.
