Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) congratulates Utah Governor Gary Herbert (R) and the Utah State Legislature, the Department of Public Safety and the Department of Transportation on collectively receiving the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award. The award recognizes achievement and innovation in road safety and is a well-deserved honor for Utah after enacting a law to lower the legal limit of alcohol-impaired driving from .08 to .05 percent blood alcohol concentration (BAC). Utah’s first-in-the-nation .05 percent BAC law is an effective countermeasure that will save lives and reduce preventable deaths and injuries from drunk driving crashes.

Letter to House Small Business Committee about Long Overdue ELD Rule

Consumer, public health, safety and law enforcement organizations, trucking companies, truck drivers, and victims of truck crashes and their families, sent the following letter about the long overdue electronic logging device (ELD) rule to Members of the House Small Business Committee. ELDs are a proven and cost-effective way to reduce truck driver fatigue and save lives. Any attempt to delay or carve out exemptions to the ELD rule will jeopardize the safety of truckers and all road users.

Cathy Chase, Advocates’ Vice President of Governmental Affairs, has been selected by the Board of Directors as the new President.
