Advocates Urges Alabama to Upgrade its Distracted Driving Law

150 150 Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety

On February 22, 2022, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) sent a letter to the leadership of the Alabama House of Representatives urging lawmakers to upgrade the state’s distracted driving laws.  While Alabama has taken steps to deter this deadly conduct by enacting a prohibition on texting behind the wheel and on the use of devices by novice, young drivers, more can and should be done to reduce the prevalence of visual, manual and cognitive driver distraction caused by device use.

Letter in Support of House Bill (HB) 90 to Upgrade Alabama’s Distracted Driving Law

150 150 Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety

On February 5, 2021 Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) sent a letter to the Alabama Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security in support of House Bill (HB) 90.  The legislation would improve safety on Alabama roads by broadening the current prohibition on drivers from using wireless communication devices to read, write or send text messages while operating a motor vehicle to include distracting viewing of non-navigational content and manual use.
