Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Edward Markey (D-MA) families of truck crash, “hot car” and seatback failure victims, safety & consumer advocates, public health experts and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters will call on the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation to include urgently needed safety upgrades in surface transportation legislation scheduled for consideration by the Committee on June 16.

Group Letter to House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee on “INVEST in America Act”

On June 4, 2021, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) sent a group letter to the U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure about the “INVEST in America Act.”  The letter was signed by groups representing auto safety, consumer rights and highway safety advocates, public health and the victims of fatal truck crashes.

Letter in Support of Assembly Bill (AB) 118 to Strengthen Nevada’s Child Occupant Protection Statute

On May 13, 2021 Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) sent a letter to the Nevada state Senate in support of Assembly Bill (AB) 118.  The measure would require that children remain rear facing in a child safety seat until age two or older and would add a minimum height requirement for children younger than age six to attain before they transition from use of a booster seat to a seat belt.

Statement on 2021 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure

Today, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) released its 2021 Report Card for America’s Infrastructure, issuing a grade of “D” for U.S. roads and “C” for bridges.  Since its last report in 2017, the grade for roads has remained at a dismal “D,” and the grade for bridges holds the disappointing distinction of being the only category in which the grade dropped (from a C+).  This is not a “refrigerator-worthy” report card.  It is time for our nation’s leaders to “hit the books” and advance proven solutions to upgrade our infrastructure which will also result in improving safety for all road users.
