Advocates Urges California Lawmakers to Upgrade the State’s Graduated Driver Licensing Law (GDL)

 150 150 Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety

On March 1, 2022, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) sent a letter to the California Assembly Committee on Transportation, urging support for Assembly Bill (AB) 2388.  This legislation would improve the current graduated driver licensing (GDL) law for novice teen drivers by requiring participation in the state’s program by older teen and young adult novice drivers up to age 21.  California law only covers teenagers up to age 18.

Letter in Support of Assembly Bill (AB) 550 to Permit the Use of Automated Enforcement Systems in California

On April 15, 2021 Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) sent a letter to the California State Assembly Committee on Transportation in support of Assembly Bill (AB) 550.  The legislation would improve safety on California roads by permitting the use of automated speed enforcement systems, otherwise known as speed cameras.

Letter Opposing Assembly Bill (AB) 122 to Weaken California’s Bicycle Safety Law

On March 30, 2021 Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) sent a letter to the California Assembly Committee on Appropriations opposing Assembly Bill (AB) 122.  This legislation would allow bicyclists to proceed through an intersection controlled by a stop sign without stopping if no vehicle is in the intersection or constitutes an immediate hazard to the cyclists while they are in the intersection.
