New Jersey High School Students Urge Lawmakers to Upgrade the State’s Seat Belt Law

On May 26, 2022, the Bergen Record of New Jersey published a letter to the editor penned by student members of Indian Hills High School’s “Click Clack Front and Back” club.  The letter highlights the serious issue of traffic safety and urges New Jersey lawmakers to upgrade the state’s seat belt law to primary enforcement for all vehicle occupants.

Letter in Support of House Bill (HB) 283 to Upgrade Ohio’s Distracted Driving Law

150 150 Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety

This legislation will improve safety on Ohio roads by upgrading the state’s distracted driving law to primary enforcement, curbing distracting viewing behind the wheel, and adding a ban on handheld mobile device use. Current state law is secondary enforcement which significantly hinders police efforts as they are required to first observe an additional violation before stopping the driver for texting while driving.

Letter Opposing the Weakening of Maine’s Optimal Seat Belt Law

On May 12, 2021, Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety (Advocates) sent a letter to the Maine legislature’s Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety urging the Committee to oppose a provision in Legislative Document (LD) 1479 to limit enforcement of Maine’s seat belt law from primary to secondary.
