Advocates has sent a letter of support to the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security in the Massachusetts Legislature for Senate Bill (SB) 1784 to enable the Division of Highways to use speed safety cameras in active work zones. Speed safety cameras are a proven technology and a vital tool to ensure roadway safety.
In addition to SB 1784, we support similar legislation pending in the Joint Committee on Transportation to allow use of speed safety and red light safety cameras. Specifically, those bills are:
- SB 2344/HB 3754 and HB 4087: would allow municipalities to use red light safety cameras.
- SB 2344/HB 3754: would also allow municipalities to use speed safety cameras.
- HB 3660: would allow the Division of Highways to use speed safety cameras in active work zones.
- HB 3905: would allow speed safety cameras in Salem school zones.
- HB 4179: would allow speed safety and red light safety cameras in Somerville.
