In a letter to the North Carolina Committee on Rules and Operations of the Senate, Advocates called on legislators to amend Senate Bill 245 to preserve the supervised driving requirement for limited provisional license holders. This can be accomplished by requiring submission of a supervised driving log as part of a remote application for a full provisional license. From 2014 to 2023, traffic fatalities in North Carolina increased 22 percent. The GDL law, which was weakened during the pandemic, should not be further diluted and exacerbate this tragic trend.

We previously urged the House to make the same amendment.
