Advocates wrote to the House Environment and Transportation Committee urging the committee to advance Senate Bill (SB) 487/House Bill (HB) 256, known as the Vulnerable Road User Protection Act, to enhance safety for vulnerable road users (VRUs). This legislation is timely and necessary as fatalities for VRUs increased 58 percent for pedestrians and 200 percent for bicyclists and other cyclists by 200 percent from 2014 to 2023. This legislation expands use of speed safety cameras to roadway segments identified as safety corridors due to being high risk for VRUs.
