Advocates and other safety partners have joined together to support of HB 2573, by Representative Teresa Martinez, which eliminates the 45-day hard suspension in favor of ordering an ignition interlock and allowing for judicial flexibility. This law would allow offenders to install an ignition interlock sooner and obtain a special restricted license. This is a best practice since the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators estimates that 75 percent of people continue to drive on a suspended license.

From 2006 to 2024, in Arizona, ignition interlocks have prevented DUI offenders from attempting to drink and drive more than 1.7 million times. HB 2573 protects people on the roadways while still allowing drivers to safely continue driving and meeting family and work obligations.
