Ahead of a hearing tomorrow in the Senate Commerce Committee, titled “Hit the Road, Mac: The Future of Self-Driving Cars,” Advocates has sent a letter urging Senators to advance proven solutions to improve safety on our Nation’s roads and establish sensible safeguards to ensure self-driving cars are developed and deployed safely.

Advocates has also led a group letter calling for a comprehensive and thoughtful approach to AV development and deployment that would include these sensible safeguards:

  • Retain States’ Rights to Protect Their Road Users
  • Collection of and Public Access to Comprehensive Safety Data is Essential
  • Establish Accessibility Requirements
  • Address Safety Considerations for Remote Operators
  • Include Workforce Protections
  • Prevent Mass Exemptions from Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)
